I have established a scholarship in my name at UCLA, The Joseph D. Gallo Spirit Squad Scholarship!
I first became involved with the UCLA Spirit Squad by joining their Booster Club ( Official Fans) and I learned from their website www.spirit.ucla.edu that there are no scholarships available for the Spirit Squad.
In August 2008, I donated $2,500 for a scholarship and the scholarship became a reality largely due to the efforts of Mollie Vehling, the Spirit Squad Advisor, who worked very hard on my behalf!
The scholarship was awarded on February 28, 2009 at the Spirit Squad Brunch. The Spirit Squad Brunch is held every year and it is the Spirit Squad's way of thanking the Official Fans for their support.
The recipients of the 2009 Joseph D. Gallo Spirit Squad Scholarship are: Chantel, Dana, Danny, Josh, and Michelle!
My goal is to make the scholarship bigger every year so that I can help more students!
In September 2009 , I donated $5,000 for the next year's scholarship!
The 2nd Joseph D. Gallo Spirit Squad Scholarship was awarded on April 11, 2010 at the Spirit Squad Afternoon Reception at the James West Alumni Center on the UCLA campus. The scholarship was presented by Mollie Vehling, the Spirit Squad Director, after performances by the UCLA Cheer and Dance Teams, in front of a large number of guests including UCLA football coaches, UCLA football players and basketball players, officials of the UCLA Alumni Association, and the Chancellor of UCLA!
The recipients of the 2010 Joseph D. Gallo Spirit Squad Scholarship are: Danny, Drew, Erin, Jason, Nikki, and Roxanne!
